EXTERIOR SPACES

RdC / façade
Here the sign over the main entrance door indicates the ancient function of this locale: a café, of which the 1907 phone directory counts 26... Still three to four are functional in town. No one we meet remembers to have seen this particular one up and running. The lettering suggests some hundred years might have passed by. Another café indicator is the huge wine cellar, where wine was actually produced and stored in barrels.

What kind of building existed here before the café so far one can only guess. The tower is oversized for the kind of habitation and the stone staircase inside used to access the house next to this one. The passages have been walled up in natural stone, early on. Nearby church and chapel and the important religious past of Tannay could well have included this part of town: the ancient bourg.
